The Football Academy
Inside Southampton FC's academy, from the U8s to the U15s.
The Football Academy goes inside Southampton FC's academy, one of the Premier League's most successful talent factories, following its young players and staff through a full season, from the U8s to the U15s.
Narrated by Alan Carr, the 15-part first series premiered on CBBC and BBC iPlayer in October 2022, in the run-up to the Qatar World Cup. Saints and England players including James Ward-Prowse, Theo Walcott, Kyle Walker-Peters and Nathan Redmond take on academy players in the show's Skill Showdowns, with guest appearances from Alan Shearer and Micah Richards.
David Moya edited the launch series for Zig Zag, which went on to run for three series. He cut the series' mix of fly-on-the-wall access and high-energy challenge segments, keeping the young players' ambitions at the heart of each episode.
